Lunch Date | St. Nicholas

It was never part of our routine to eat out during lunch. We usually have home cooked meals prepared before Dada drives her Mimi to work. Today was somewhat unusual. Dada decided to eat out for lunch and try the restaurant that we have been passing by like “for-ever”. LOL!

The Menu

St. Nicholas is another hole in the wall restaurant. Its patrons are mostly those who lived in Mandaluyong as this is where it is located. The restaurant seemed to be a garage that they turned into a sit in dining place. The owners were able to accomplish the rustic garden feel, as they had some plants, flowerpots and even mountain; flower pictures made out of tarpaulins drooped on the wall. They also have saint figurines on the other side of the room, thus the name, I guess.

We actually don’t have any expectations of the place in terms of ambiance, service, affordability and taste so we try hard to set least of our anticipations. Everyone has a first time right?!

So, aside from noticing the place, ambiance, we got a little excited on the table. Our actual table got hand written notes on it. St. Nicholas had pens and post-its that customers can use to draw, write down stuff while waiting for their orders that they can stick under the plastic cover of the tables. So, after placing our orders Dada decided to join in the trend and wrote down a note which I stick on the table after. Her note is far the sweetest on the table.

Dada's Note

Today, they were having a Shrimp Menu promo where you can get all shrimp 50% less of the published price. We preceded then on ordering “Sinigang Na Hipon” and “Ebi Tempura with Suka Dip”. Our order arrived after about 15 minutes, which is kind of a long wait though explicably due to the number of customers they have earlier, so we did not complain.

When it came down to the food, it was ok. There was nothing special about it. Frankly, Dada’s cooking is much better. It did not disappoint us because we only paid about Php 249 for everything. So still a great deal. We did enjoyed the ambiance so I guess St. Nicholas is okay but definitely not something you can brag about although we are still encouraging those people who may come across this blog to try and eat at St. Nicholas. There are still some things that you can enjoy like the ambiance and the waiters. We may have waited long but the waiters were proactively telling us on the status of our orders which is a plus factor. Overall, St. Nicholas is worth trying and worth coming back for.
